| OUR HISTORY Fly for Hope is the name of the fund raising campaign that benefits City of Hope through activities of the (homing) pigeon racing community. Since 1989, Fly for Hope activities have raised more than $950,000 for cancer research and treatment at City of Hope. City of Hope is one of only 40 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States. City of Hope is an independent biomedical research, treatment and education institution dedicated to fighting cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases. It is recognized worldwide for its compassionate patient care, innovative science and translational research, which rapidly turns laboratory breakthroughs into promising new therapies. These funds have been raised in a variety of ways: proceeds from pigeon auctions, pigeon shows, personal and club donations, percentage donations from races and special races that donate all or a majority of the net revenue to City of Hope. Pigeon flyers from all over the United States (and even some from Europe) have participated and supported Fly for Hope events. California pigeon flyers have taken on the leadership of this program. The CSRPO (California State Racing Pigeon Organization) is a very special supporter of the Fly for Hope program. |
